The lowest paying symbols aren’t particularly on theme, being the traditional card symbols, but this changes as the payouts increase. The mid-range symbols represent items typically associated with Ancient Egypt: a canopic jar, the eye of Horus and an ankh. These offer between 4x and 8x your stake. The two highest paying symbols are a scarab ring, up to 10x, and a purple treasure chest, up to 15x. Those who prefer mobile gaming will be pleased to hear that the game has been fully optimised for all devices and can be enjoyed just as easily in portrait mode as in landscape mode.

Interestingly, the background design is a little different in portrait mode compared to the landscape version, which is the same as on a desktop. In portrait mode, the grid is placed at the top of white stone steps, with the spin symbol being placed centrally so it’s easier to press with your thumb.

Wild Symbols

The Pharaoh Wild symbol can appear on any of the reels. It substitutes for all symbols, except the pyramid scatter and the nudge symbol, which can potentially lead to more, or more significant, wins by completing combinations. If you manage to land five wild symbols on the reels, you’ll get a payout of 20x your stake.

Nudge Symbols

The Nudge symbol is a beetle with golden wings and a large red gem on its back. This can land anywhere on the grid and acts as a wild too. What makes it different to the Pharaoh Wild is that it triggers the Multiplier Wheel feature when it lands if there is awin on the reels. The Nudge symbol doesn’t have to be part of the win to trigger this feature.

Multiplier Wheel

When the Multiplier Wheel is activated, this is where the number on the Nudge symbol comes into play. The wheel opens up on the right column next to the reels and spins until it lands on a random number, which becomes the base multiplier. Then, the wheel is nudged one spot at a time based on the number on the back of the Nudge symbol. Whichever numbers the wheel passes through are added to the base multiplier, which can lead to a very rewarding payout when the wheel finally stops turning.

Scatter Symbols

Players can land three or more pyramid scatter symbols to unlock 10 free spins. This is a fixed number of spins, which doesn’t change based on how many scatter symbols appear. Testing the Rise of Egypt Slot with a £50 Bankroll

To be able to give a comprehensive review of the slot, I tested out the Rise of Egypt demo with a hypothetical budget of £50 and a stake of £1 per spin across 50 spins.

I landed my first win of £2.40 thanks to a wild on my second spin, with a Nudge on the reels, which was multiplied x2 for a payout of £4.80. I won another £1.00 on my fourth spin, but then things slowed down until spin 15, where things became steadier, with smaller wins. That was until spin 21, where a wild and a 10 Nudge symbol boosted my £0.40 payout all the way up to £17.60 as it was multiplied x44. At this point, my balance was back up to £60.40. I got another x44 multiplier from a 10 Nudge symbol on spin 39, which won me £8.80. Over my last 11 spins, I landed seven wins, including one of £10.00, thanks to a 4 Nudge giving me an x25 multiplier. I ended my session with a balance of £62.60, meaning an overall win of £12.60.
