The Goonies Gameplay

The Goonies has 20 paylines across the 5x3 grid. A minimum combination of two symbols must land across the reels, starting from the left, to form a win.

You can make a minimum bet of £0.10 and a maximum bet of £5.00. UKGC slot rules limit bets to a maximum of £2.00 if you are aged 18-24, while this increases to £5.00 once you turn 25.

The Medallion Coin acts as one of the Wild symbols. It substitutes for all symbols apart from the One-Eyed Willy Scatter symbols and other Bonus symbols.

When the Skeleton Key starts glowing, it indicates the start of One-Eyed Willy’s Riches. This is an in-game modifier feature that can be triggered randomly on any spin, separate from the main bonus round features. Theme and Story of The Goonies Slot

The Goonies slot immerses you into the world of the beloved Steven Spielberg classic. You’re on the hunt for One-Eyed Willy’s treasure, helped by boosts along the way from pals Chunk, Mikey, Mouth, Sloth and Data.

The main characters get their own modifiers to help you on your adventure, just like in the movie, as they try and evade the numerous booby traps. There’s plenty of action going on with this slot.

Graphics, Sounds and Vibes

Loading up the slot title, you are welcomed with the iconic ‘The Goonies’ logo. You’ll hear Sloth shout his famous line, ‘Hey you guys’, as the game loads as well, before Mikey’s ‘Goonies never say die’ line echoes as you enter the base game.

The overall vibe matches that of the film, with the base game soundtrack evoking a mischievous feel. This is really where the slot stands out; it truly replicates the cinematic aesthetic.

It has a treasure hunt feel, giving you something to aim for as you progress through the different features. Blueprint has specifically designed the bonus rounds to allow you to continue progressing through each feature, as if you are slowly getting deeper and deeper into the cave. Overall, it doesn’t have a serious undertone and is more playful than scary.

The Goonies Slot Bonus Features

After you have landed at least three Scatter symbols to activate the bonus, you get to spin the wheel to decide which of The Goonies bonus features you are awarded.

The wheel allows you to activate one of the six different bonus rounds: Fratelli’s Hideout Bonus, Super Sloth’s Free Spins, The Goonies Go Wild Free Spins, Skeleton Organ Bonus, Inferno Free Spins and One-Eyed Willy’s Treasure Bonus.

Fratelli’s Hideout Bonus

This is triggered by landing on the Fratelli Hideout segment during the wheel spin. It allows you to pick different objects from the Fratelli’s Hideout, which then reveal cash prizes, rewards and multipliers.

Super Sloth’s Free spins

From my test session before completing The Goonies review, I got the option to select whether to collect the Super Sloth’s Free Spins or gamble to activate The Goonies Go Wild Free Spins bonus feature instead. I chose to play the Super Sloth Free Spins and managed to win £9.08 from the bonus round.

This gave me 10 Super Sloth Free Spins. During the Free Spins bonus round, when the Super Sloth Wilds appeared, they replaced the Fratelli villain symbols with the highest-paying Pirate Flag symbol.

Once completed, I got the option to pick from treasure chests, which allowed me to collect my winnings, get extra free spins or head onto One-Eyed Willy’s Treasure. I was able to collect my winnings.

The Goonies Go Wild Free Spins

This is similar to the Super Sloth’s Free Spins round, as it features expanding wilds which allow you to secure big wins. One of the top-paying symbols, such as the Pirate Flag or Treasure Chest, turns into a Wild symbol for the free spins. At the end, the chests reveal whether you can collect your winnings, get extra free spins, or go on to One-Eyed Willy’s Treasure.

Skeleton Organ Bonus

If you spin the bonus wheel and receive the Skeleton Organ bonus, this bonus round upgrades symbols to enhance the paylines. Here, you can select different organ keys or bones to reveal either cash prizes, multipliers, upgrade symbols or unlock additional bonus rounds. However, if you reveal a danger or trap symbol, the feature will come to an end.

Inferno Free Spins

Another free spins round with large rewards and multipliers. It has the feel of a progressive bonus round. This is one of the standout bonus rounds which can provide serious wins.

Here, the inferno turns between one and three reels completely wild for each free spin. This dramatically improves the paylines and offers stacked Wilds. At the end of the bonus, chests allow you to collect your winnings, get additional free spins or move onto One-Eyed Willy’s Treasure.

One-Eyed Willy’s Treasure Bonus

This is the main bonus that you can activate, and it replicates the treasure hunt aesthetic from the film. It has a treasure map that allows you to collect symbols and unlock different treasures.

It awards huge multipliers which can get bigger until a trap or collect symbol lands to stop the feature. You won’t be able to advance further than this, making it the final bonus round.

Bet Sizes and Variance

You can place a minimum bet of £0.10 and a maximum of £5.00 if you are aged 25 or older. This will be capped at £2.00 if you are aged 18-24. The Goonies maximum win is 50,000x your stake.

Bonus Frequency

After testing the slot, I believe that you can trigger one of the base game modifiers or Wild symbols once every 30-40 spins. However, it will take around 100-150 spins to activate one of the bonus round features. This is around the UK industry average.

Testing the The Goonies Slot with a £50 Bankroll

After playing The Goonies demo with a £50 bankroll, I spun the reels a total of 125 times at £0.40 per spin. I managed to activate the Skeleton Key unlock at spin 33, which then unlocked One-Eyed Willy’s Bonus Boost. This allowed me to spin the bonus wheel, which then activated the Fratelli’s Hideout Bonus.

Even after unlocking the bonus, my total session saw me down £16.28. You’ll need to activate the One-Eyed Willy’s Treasure Bonus to see any real win potential in this slot.
