Reactoonz Slot Review

Play’n GO released the Reactoonz slot in 2017. The slot has 7 reels and uses a cluster pays format. With a 96.51% RTP and high volatility, I was keen to test this alien-themed game because of its cascading reels and unique bonus features.

Reactoonz is one of Play’n GO’s most popular slots. A sequel was launched in 2020 and joins Book of Dead and Aztec Idols in their 400+ strong game library. The provider is based in Malta but has held a UK Gambling Commission license since 2018.

Reactoonz Gameplay

Even though I have played many cluster pays casino slots in the past, it took me a while to get to grips with the Reactoonz gameplay. As is normal with this game type, I needed a group of 5+ symbols to earn a win. It was nice to find that symbols can be matched vertically and horizontally. However, they must land on adjacent rows or reels, meaning that diagonals are not allowed.

Although I had read about this feature beforehand, the cascading reels certainly add to the gameplay during the base game. Also known as tumble or avalanche, this feature replaces winning symbols with new ones that often create additional wins when I played the Reactoonz demo. This sequence will only end when no more clusters form.

The wild symbol is represented by a yellow flash of light, and it doesn’t just land on the grid as with traditional slot machines. It can only be generated through a bonus feature that I will discuss later on. I found that one symbol is selected at random after each spin. In the event that this symbol helped give me a win, two wilds were generated on my next spin. This was certainly a welcome addition and something that I had not previously encountered.

The blue, yellow, green, and pink aliens gave me the biggest payouts. The yellow, red, and purple creatures are low-paying, and I found no traditional royals when playing the Reactoonz demo.

After setting my stake to £1, I was pleased to earn two payouts from my first ten spins. They were worth £1.28 and £0.64 and were the result of a cluster of six two-eyed yellow aliens and a cluster of seven one-eyed purple aliens, respectively.

Theme and Story of the Reactoonz Slot

I would describe the Reactoonz theme as aliens or space. The slot’s storyline follows a group of larger-than-life aliens as they travel across the galaxy. These extraterrestrial creatures travel across the galaxy to fuel the Gargantoon, their power-hungry leader. Rather than a traditional narrative, the story is told through gameplay, where cascading wins represent the energy needed to trigger a seismic invasion of the reels.

Graphics, Sounds, and Vibes

One reason Reactoonz has been described as one of the best grid slots is its visuals. While the reels are set on a basic outer space backdrop, I was struck by the attention to detail on the grid. I love how the aliens start looking at each other and making faces between spins. Gargantoon even falls asleep if you take too long!

My experience was enhanced by the animations that occur when a cluster forms. Winning symbols appear with a radioactive-like glow, before they are transported to the Quantum Meter like shooting stars. Energy added to the meter appears as a ball of fire hurtling towards Earth.

I was left in no doubt as to when Quantum Leap reel modifiers were activated. The word ‘IMPLOSION’ appeared in the centre of the grid, while the symbols in question seemingly have a cosmic wave put through them.

The soundtrack certainly has an out-of-this-world style that would be at home in a sci-fi movie. I heard fun alien voices when I spun the reels, while additional intergalactic sounds accompany winning clusters and Reactoonz bonus features. I was pleased that the graphics looked as good on mobile as they did on desktop.

I always play the Reactoonz demo in landscape mode. This is because the slots take up almost the entire screen in portrait mode, and you can’t appreciate the background. Gargantoon is also not visible in portrait mode.

The spin button is found at the bottom of the screen in portrait view, compared to the right of the screen in landscape. The only limitation of playing using a smartphone or tablet is that you can’t see the animations as clearly. For example, I had to hold my phone close to my eyes to notice the funny faces and expressions of the aliens.

Quantum Leap Reel Modifiers

I gained energy from symbols collected in the Quantum Meter. This is then transferred to the opposite side of the reels to unlock one of four modifiers. Below, I have outlined how each one works.

• Implosion: 3-6 symbols turn wild.

• Alteration: One low-paying symbol is replaced with another.

• Demolition: All one-eyed alien symbols are removed, along with any matching symbol.

• Incision: A wild symbol is placed in the centre of the grid. Matching symbols are also placed across diagonal lines, which created more wins when I played the slot.

Gargantoon

I found this bonus hard to trigger, as it requires all four bonuses listed above to be completed. From there, I still needed to spin another 25 symbols in the meter. Once activated, Gargantoon will jump onto the reels and take up 3x3 spaces. He then transforms into a 2x2 space, followed by 9 individual wilds. This gives the opportunity to earn some significant wins.

RTP and Volatility

The 96.51% RTP is above the 96% average for slots. It means that, on average, you can expect to make £96.51 for every £100 wagered. However, I should say that high volatility means payouts are less frequent but often larger.

Bet Sizes and Variance

The bet range of £0.20 to £5 per spin makes Reactoonz best-suited to beginners. High rollers and professionals will generally wish to stake more than this. The high variance allows for large wins.

Bonus Frequency

I mentioned earlier how difficult it was to trigger Reactoonz bonus features. I finally activated the Gargantoon bonus after 112 spins. Thinking about it, this is actually about average for online slots.

Testing the Reactoonz Slot with a £50 Bankroll

As part of this Reactoonz review, I deposited £50 into my casino account and started spinning the reels. Having set my stake to £1, I actually won £0.20 from my first bet. More small wins of £0.25 and £0.40 quickly followed, so I doubled my stake. This helped me claim my biggest payout of £4.60.
