Ontario iGaming revenue hits record $313M in April

Ontario’s iGaming revenue for April 2025 has shown impressive growth, reaching a staggering $313.2m, which is a 25% increase from the previous year.

April sees Ontario iGaming revenue soar 25% year-on-year to $313M

These latest figures from iGaming Ontario also show a 5.8% month-over-month revenue increase from March’s $296 million, which further cements this surge in popularity of online gambling in Canada.

Online casinos drive Ontario’s gaming profits

Online casino games still remain the driving force in Ontario’s digital gambling sector, with April alone generating a massive $248 million, 78% of the total market share.

  • Online poker saw a slight increase of 3.5% to $5.9 million

  • Sports betting produced a total of $64.5 million, 21% of the market.

Player engagement stays high despite spending dip

While revenue shot up, the amount players bet was slightly lower, from $8 billion in March to $7.8 billion in April. This month saw 1.1 million active player accounts, which was a 20.3% increase from April 2024 and a 2.8% rise from March.

A mature and influential model

The iGaming market in Ontario has seen an incredible surge since 2022 which proves that a well regulated framework can not only be much safer, but can also be a profitable business venture too, with total iGaming revenue reaching $3.2 billion with the 2024-2025 fiscal year rising from $2.4 billion in its second year.

Other areas across Canada are also taking note, such as Alberta, which passed Bill 48 in May to establish its own iGaming market, expected to go live in early 2026.

Industry reaction and national implications

Industry professionals see Ontario’s success as the ultimate blueprint for future regulation in Canada. Troy Ross, the president of TRM Public Affairs, has commented:

“We now have three years of evidence that iGaming regulation channels nearly 90% of play into a compliance regime, a regulated private sector working alongside a lottery offering captures the vast majority of play.”

Ontario’s strong numbers provide a fantastic focal point for discussion about potential future regulatory structures for online gambling in Canada, with other regions soon to be following in their footsteps.
