FanDuel launches AI deposit tool for real-time responsible gambling

Cory Fox, FanDuel’s Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Sustainability, introduced Real-Time Check-In, a machine learning-powered tool designed to detect unusual deposit behaviors and prompt players to reconsider their decisions, right at the moment of deposit.

Machine learning meets player protection

Real-Time Check-In uses behavioral modeling and data analysis to track an individual’s deposit patterns. If a user attempts a deposit that appears out of step with their usual habits, the system intervenes in real time, asking the user to reflect before confirming the deposit.

The tool offers actionable options:

• Reduce the deposit

• Set a new limit

• Review activity via My Spend, FanDuel’s tracking dashboard launched in 2024

This feature aligns closely with Flutter Entertainment’s global push toward sustainable play, borrowing heavily from the Real Time Intervention (RTI) system first launched by Sportsbet in Australia.

Speaking about the new tech, Fox said;

Deposit is a crucial touchpoint. This technology adds a moment of reflection that helps players ask, ‘Is this still within my budget?’

Positive player reaction

Early user testing has been overwhelmingly positive. According to Jill Watkins, FanDuel’s Senior Director of Responsible Gaming, users expressed surprise at first, but also appreciation.

Commenting on the positive player reaction, Watkins said,

They saw it for what it was meant to be: not a restriction, but a nudge. Something that helped them pause and make a better decision 

Users reported that after seeing a prompt from Real-Time Check-In, they either adjusted their deposit or proceeded with more confidence and awareness.

Not just another ‘opt-in’

What sets this tool apart is its automatic integration into the deposit process. 

Unlike traditional responsible gambling tools hidden behind settings menus, Real-Time Check-In is always on and adjusts dynamically based on user history, seasonal betting trends, and risk factors.

This marks a clear evolution from FanDuel’s earlier efforts, like My Spend, which required users to actively seek out and engage with responsible play features.

A nod to global lessons

FanDuel’s move reinforces a broader trend: the US market is maturing, and responsible gambling tech is moving from reactive to proactive.

The strategy echoes the successes seen in the UK and European markets, where behavioral insights and real-time interventions have significantly improved player outcomes.

Fox emphasized that this isn’t just about preventing harm, it’s about empowering players.

He added;

This is a new class of tool, it’s built to help customers stay in control without disrupting their experience.

As Real-Time Check-In rolls out across FanDuel’s US markets, the spotlight now shifts to how this balance of machine learning and empathy could redefine player protection, not as a side feature, but as a main staple of the betting experience.
