Overview of Gambling in Oklahoma

The last few years have seen massive changes to the US gambling scene, with federal laws allowing each state to determine its own stance on online gambling. Many states have already seized the opportunity and are reaping the revenue benefits. The boom began with online sports betting with some states also permitting United States online casinos to operate.

Oklahoma has a flourishing tribal gambling industry, with 60 casinos generating annual revenues of $3 billion. Residents can also enjoy lotteries and horse race betting at licensed venues. With all this in mind, you would therefore expect that Oklahoma has a tolerance towards all forms of gambling.

Guide to gamble in the state of Oklahoma

Is Online Gambling Legal in Oklahoma?

The OK state laws don’t permit or forbid online gambling. It’s a grey area so in this case, we’d advise residents not to try. There might be plenty of online gambling sites based out of Oklahoma, but it’s not worth the risk.

Though things are looking up when it comes to sports betting, as agreements have been made between the state government and tribes. So sports betting is technically legal in Oklahoma -  it just hasn’t launched yet.

In 2016 the Oklahoma government agreed for the Iowa Tribe to offer three card online poker. But this fell at the development stages and the site exists for free play only at the moment. No other tribe has since made such progress within OK and the Senate has also recently agreed not to allow the expansion of any land-based casinos. Meaning that the likelihood of legislating online casinos isn’t looking positive.

Minimum Legal age to Gamble in Oklahoma

Residents in the sooner-state can participate in the lottery at age 16. Whilst the minimum legal age for playing inside a tribal casino or placing sports bets (horse racing) is 18.

Who Regulates Casinos in Oklahoma?

The gambling market is governed by a handful of regulators, which is quite unusual. State-regulated activities are covered by the Oklahoma Office for State Finance and OSF Games Compliance Unit. Whilst the tribal casinos are handled by the Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association. Read below some news of gambling in the US.
