Overview of Gambling in Utah

The popularity of online gambling is increasing in the US, with massive demand from residents. Mobile betting is now one of the most popular ways to place sportsbook bets, and this trend isn't showing any signs of slowing down. Many states in the US are slowly opening their doors to online gambling, with sports betting taking precedence over online casinos.

Whilst Utah isn't considered part of the bible belt; it is one of the most religious states in the US. Historically it has always had a very conservative view on gambling, but will this change in the future?

Guide to gamble in the state of Utah

Is Online Gambling Legal in Utah?

There are zero forms of gambling allowed in Utah, and this is due to the state's Mormon roots. There is little point in residents hoping that this will change anytime soon, either. Players usually head off to Nevada to be able to gamble, and playing poker at home legally is also prohibited.

Pari-mutuel horse race betting was legalised in 1925 and promptly banned in 1927. This is the only time that gambling has been legal in Utah. The state is home to 8 Indian tribes; Utah refused to sign compacts to allow tribal casinos when the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act was installed in 1988.

Sports betting is probably never coming to Utah, and the state is also one of 5 that does not have a lottery. Social and sweepstakes casinos are also prohibited, along with charity games such as bingo.

Minimum Legal age to Gamble in Utah

There isn't any legalised gambling in Utah, so there isn't a minimum legal age. It's unlikely that this will change, but if it ever did, the state would probably veer towards the upper age requirements of 21.

Who Regulates Casinos in Utah?

There are no casinos within the beehive state, and we think it would take a miracle for this to change too. Current laws to penalise those who break the law are very strict. Gamblers face being slapped with a Class B misdemeanour, up to 6 months jail time and a fine of up to $1,000. Find below some news about gambling in the US.
