Litecoin Price Prediction 2025

Updated by Mike Lorente verified symbol on July 12, 2022

Litecoin is inspiring confidence in many as it proves its ability to withstand a volatile cryptocurrency marketplace by slowly but surely integrating itself into people's everyday lives through various partnerships. However, what do the experts have to say on what the future holds for Litecoin and its expected value over the next few years?

About Litecoin

Litecoin is the 20th most popular cryptocurrency at present based on market value. Using the symbol Ł and abbreviating to LTC, the coin was created by ex-Google engineer Charlie Lee and released in October 2011.

Aware of Bitcoin at the time, Lee wanted to create something similar that took the idea of a democratised cryptocurrency even further than BTC already had, moving away from large enterprises and opening up the coin to everyday people.

Developed as a fork of Bitcoin and based on the Bitcoin Core client, the resulting altcoin was almost identical to its parent, but at the same time markedly different in a few key ways:

  • Block time: 1 Litecoin block takes 2.5 minutes to be mined, compared to 10 minutes for 1 Bitcoin block to be mined.
  • Algorithms: Litecoin utilises the Scrypt algorithm, which offers increased security and protection against 51% attacks, while Bitcoin uses SHA-256.
  • Block reward: Since there is a difference in value between Bitcoin and Litecoin, it follows that the block rewards will also be different: the reward for mining 1 LTC block is 12.5 LTC (around $551) compared to Bitcoin's 6.25 BTC (about $140,000).
  • Supply limit: Litecoin is in much greater supply than its parent, maxing out at 84 million coins compared to Bitcoin's 21 million.

Though it's true there are more than a few online cryptocurrencies that are of much greater value than Litecoin (around 19, in fact!), the altcoin is still one of the most popular in the crypto world.

There are a number of reasons why Litecoin is proving to be such a popular choice for alternative currency and investment needs:

  • Faster transaction times: Litecoin transactions process 4 times faster than Bitcoin's, with LTC blocks taking 2.5 minutes each to be created, while 1 Bitcoin block takes just under 10 minutes.
  • Lower fees: The fees for making transactions in Litecoin are a fraction of the cost of those of other payment methods and even other cryptocurrencies, making them much more accessible.
  • Better security: Litecoin's Scrypt algorithm means the chances of anyone mining entity gaining a majority influence on the blockchain, also known as a 51% attack, are eliminated, resulting in a more secure setup.
  • Liquidity: The on-off ramp for Litecoin trading is very fluid, meaning that there are a lot of available options for trading Litecoin between fiat currencies, making it more compatible with real-world economics than many other altcoins.
  • Accepted in many places: Thanks to numerous partnerships, Litecoin is accepted at a growing number of both offline and online locations and in various forms too, including as a newly launched Visa debit card.

Litecoin's Current Price

Like many cryptocurrencies, Litecoin is subject to fluctuations over short periods of time, consequently resulting in a loss of investor confidence during such periods, which in turn can further affect LTC pricing in a vicious cycle.

In the time it took to write this article, the price of LTC had dropped several dollars, but that doesn't prevent the coin's value from rebounding, which is something we've seen happening time and time again over the course of the coin's albeit relatively short history.

At the time of writing, Litecoin's price stood at just over $45 per 1 LTC. For comparison, the altcoin reached an all-time high of more than $400 in 2017 and started off at a value of just $0.30 shortly after its launch in 2011.

Factors behind litecoin price fluctuations

Factors Influencing Litecoin's Price

Before we take a look at some of the price predictions for Litecoin in 2025, let's consider the various factors that can influence the price of cryptocurrency.

Due to the nature of cryptocurrencies, otherwise trivial factors can affect the price of coins quite dramatically. You only have to look at the effect on the price of Bitcoin and Dogecoin that Elon Musk's comments have to realise that something as seemingly insignificant as speculation can actually have a huge influence.

Many of these influencing factors are the same as those that dictate the peaks and troughs of traditional currency markets, but there are also a few influences that are specific to cryptos.

Supply

One aspect of Litecoin that influences its value is its supply. Whereas the supply of fiat currencies can be, and often is, adjusted (eg. by printing more money) as a reaction to changes in the market, cryptocurrencies like Litecoin were designed to prevent such controversial tampering by building in a fixed supply.

With Litecoin's maximum total supply capped at 84 million coins, with no more ever being added into circulation once the total supply has been mined, a stabilising effect is created for the time being.

As mining continues and we see all Litecoins being released into circulation, the price is expected to hold its value at the very least and ideally increase in value due to the concept of scarcity.

Trading

Just like in every other area of trade, fluctuations in buys and sales have an influence on prices.

Mass buys of any commodity imply that the price will increase, but there is a limit to this effect. As more of the commodity is bought up, less is in circulation, so fewer opportunities to buy are available, which results in a levelling-off effect followed by a fall in prices.

Similarly, if there is a mass of sales in a short space of time, it is an indication that prices will fall. Availability of the commodity increases as more is released into circulation, eventually creating an upturn again.

These cycles of peaks and troughs are not exclusive to fiat currencies and other commodities. Cryptocurrencies like Litecoin also ride the waves of highs and lows in response to trading activity.

Partnerships

Perhaps one of the most influential factors regarding Litecon's price is the many partnerships that have emerged since the coin's inception. These partnerships serve as a way of increasing the coin's adoption and integration into everyday life, which ultimately increases its value.

Significant Litecoin partners currently include Travala, a flight, hotel and holiday booking site allowing users to pay in Litecoin; eGifter, an online platform that allows the purchase of gift cards for over 300 retailers; Twitch, the live streaming platform that allows users to tip in Litecoin; RE/MAX, which lets members rent and buy property in Litecoin; the American Red Cross, which lets donors contribute to humanitarian causes in Litecoin; and PayPal, the popular ewallet that now allows members to send, transfer and receive in Litecoin.

Halving

Much like Bitcoin, a value-controlling mechanism called halving is built into the design of Litecoin. At regular intervals, the reward for mining 1 Litecoin block is halved.

Since the block time for Litecoin is 4 times faster than that of Bitcoin, it stands to reason that the halving period of Litecoin is calculated accordingly. Compared to Bitcoin's halving, which takes place every 210,000 blocks, Litecoin's halving is implemented every 840,000 blocks, roughly every 4 years in both cases.

Litecoin's block reward was 50 LTC at launch, but after two halvings it is now 12.5 LTC, with the next halving expected to be in August 2023, at which point the block reward will drop to 6.25 LTC.

The point of halving is to ensure the coin maintains or increases its value as we approach the total supply mined. As the reward drops, fewer miners will find it profitable to continue mining, which will throttle supply and push up the coin's value.

Investing or not in litecoin

Is it Worth Investing in Litecoin?

Judging by the views of the various industry experts on crypto price predictions, it seems Litecoin has a bright future, with its price expected to be somewhere between $100 and $200. Some believe Litecoin could even exceed these estimates to break through $300 per LTC.

Based on the current price of Litecoin, which is around $45 per LTC, you could argue that now is a good time to invest in the coin to potentially reap the rewards in the next few years. However, remember that while there are many predictions surrounding Litecoin and an expected increase in price, these are just predictions. No one knows what the future holds, so invest with caution.

Final Words

Litecoin has come a long way since its launch in 2011. Thanks to its solid base as a fork from the world's first and currently most popular cryptocurrency Bitcoin, plus a range of deals with some hugely influential partners, Litecoin has proven it has what it takes to withstand the pressures of the relatively young cryptocurrency marketplace.

As the altcoin continues to be accepted in various forms across a growing number of online and offline locations, integrating further into everyday life and showing real potential as an alternative currency, LTC could become a firm fixture in our future.
