A new report issued by the German research group indicates that there has been a surge in the popularity of mobile-based online gambling and social casino gaming, with actual money on the line. This may fail to surprise many, who have already noticed the uptick in popularity of mobile casinos and social media websites.

The report, titled EMEA Online Gaming Market 2014, indicates that these trends are emerging from Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East. In 2013, Russia saw a huge rise in the number of online gambling enthusiasts, surpassing 60 million. This represents a 20% boost in the online gambling market in that nation.

The United Arab Emirates saw a significant 10% increase in the number of people partaking in online gambling using mobile devices.  Similar increases were also noted in Poland and Turkey, while South Africa is expected to see a fair amount of growth over the next three years (with similar trends observed in other African nations).

Meanwhile, in the UK, British mobile casino enthusiasts led the pack in terms of money spent on digital games, while residents of Germany had the top per-month expenditure rates. The report also indicated that over one-third of players in the UK opted to play at mobile casinos using a tablet.

France was also cited in the report as an area where mobile casinos saw growth topping ten percent in 2013. Belgium – an area where lawmakers are now ramping up enforcement to root out players who utilise one of the 97 unlicensed online casinos – was also the site of tremendous growth in terms of social casino gaming popularity.
