Macau's thriving version of the Las Vegas Strip

Macau Casino StripLand-based casinos are the most popular form of gambling in the world. When you think of a casino strip covered in bright lights and filled with the sounds of slots, you probably think of Las Vegas.

One of the largest and most lucrative casino strips in the world, one that easily rivals Las Vegas, is the Cotai Strip in Macau.

Officially established in 2004 with the opening of the first casino, Macau's government began the process of creating the Strip twenty years before.

Two Islands Become One

In 1984, the islands of Coloane and Taipa were added to the Macau peninsula which allowed enough space for the Cotai Strip to be created.

When the first casino opened its doors many years later, it kicked off a long list of investors from around the world getting involved. Las Vegas Sands Corporation were the first to join the Cotai Strip, but they were soon followed by the Galaxy Entertainment Group.

In 2006 the Grand Waldo Hotel (now called the Broadway Macau) opened to the public. Soon Venetian Macau, Galaxy Macau, the Wynn Palace, and many others joined the Strip.

Worthwhile Investment

Each company that's invested in the Macau Strip has enjoyed great rewards. The casinos on the Cotai Strip in Macau generate more revenue than Las Vegas.

Whether the Strip in Macau will ever overtake Las Vegas is hard to tell. Thanks to the long history and film representation of the Las Vegas Strip, more people still consider it to be the number one destination.
