Denmark online gambling market in GGR spotlight

Online gambling market in DenmarkAccording to the Danish gambling regulator, Spillemyndigheden, one of the top reasons for the annual increase in gross gaming revenue during 2016 was the growth of the country’s online casino market.

Gaming Revenue of DKK8.9 billion in 2016."

This is a 6% increase on 2015’s GGR of DKK8.4 billion. 

The sports betting and online gambling sectors brought in GGR of DKK3.7 billion (€5 billion/$5.3 billion) in the last 12 months which is a 13% increase from the amount generated in 2015.
 

Sports betting market 

The overall sports betting market brought in 8.8% more than 2015 and ended 2016 on a sturdy DKK2.2 billion in GGR. The online betting market was responsible for DKK1.4 billion of this and the overall amount was a surprise to all seeing as the fourth quarter wasn’t as lucrative.  

According to Spillemyndigheden the online casino stole the spotlight in 2016 as it was the one area that saw the most growth. The GGR from this market went up by almost 24% and brought in DKK1.4 billion.   

The Danish Gambling Regulator also mentioned that online slots were one of the biggest motivators for the overall growth seeing as it made up 72% of internet gaming in 2016.
