NetEnt enter Pennsylvania

The online gambling market is growing at a rapid pace and quickly making its way into many regions. With Pennsylvania finally opening its doors to online gambling it’s only natural that NetEnt would be among the first to enter the market. The industry-leading software provider just launched its innovative gaming titles in the newly regulated market of this New England state.

This after the Swedish developer was granted an Interactive Gaming Manufacture Conditional License by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) earlier this year. Entering the market is a massive milestone for NetEnt as the new online market holds considerable opportunity. Pennsylvania is the fifth most populated state in the U.S. with over 12.8 million inhabitants.

A word from NetEnt

According to the Managing Director for NetEnt Americas LLC, Erik Nyman, they are very pleased with the opening of the Pennsylvanian online gambling market. Nyman stated that they are among the few online casino suppliers that have been granted the opportunity to offer their games right from the start. He is convinced that their award-winning online casino games will be highly appreciated among players in the region.

Big changes for Pennsylvania

Until 2004 the north-eastern U.S. state allowed very few gambling activities which include lottery, charity games and horse racing. Anyone who wanted a wider variety of gambling opportunities would have to travel to another state to get it. It was in 2004 that state casinos were licensed for the first time but only after the Senate Bill 711 was implemented in 2010 that it really brought change. The bill allowed class 3 gaming (table games) and drastically increased revenue gains from licensed state casinos.

From there it was a battle to legalise online gambling and on October 30, 2017, Governor Tom Wolf signed a comprehensive gambling expansive bill. This bill would make Pennsylvania the fourth state in the nation to permit online gambling and was approved a week before its signing. The bill allows online casino and poker products and also includes other online gambling activities such as daily fantasy sports and online lottery sales.

Earlier this year NetEnt entered an agreement with Parx Online operated by Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment Inc. In September 2018 when applying for a licence with the PGCB to supply local operators with online casino games, NetEnt’s deal with Penn National Online Entertainment was its first customer signing for Pennsylvania. According to Nyman, this marks NetEnt’s first customer signing for Pennsylvania and is an important step for their growth strategy in North America.
